How to distinguish between rigid dismantling joint and non-rigid dismantling joint from the appearance

2024-12-27

In the engineering field, dismantling joints play a vital role. They not only affect the stability and safety of the pipeline system, but also directly affect the operating efficiency and life of the equipment. Among them, rigid(or thrust) dismantling joint and non-rigid( or non-thrust) dismantling joint are two common connection devices, they also two main types of our dismantling joints. Just from the appearance, although they looked very similar, but also have differences.图片1 拷贝

First, let's focus on the non-rigid( or non-thrust) dismantling joint, we usually call it double flange limited expansion joint. This type of joint is designed mainly to absorb axial displacement and withstand pressure which thrust in the pipeline system, and is especially suitable for pipelines with vibration, slope or bends. From the appearance, the main features of the double flange limited expansion joint include the body, sealing ring, gland and expansion short pipe and other components.

Among them, the body is usually composed of two flanges and a telescopic body in the middle, and the flanges are connected by bolts. It is worth noting that the bolts of the expansion joint generally not extend beyond the product itself, which is a significant feature of its appearance. In addition, due to the presence of the telescopic body, the joint has a certain degree of expansion and contraction ability in the axial direction. This design enables it to adapt to the displacement of the pipeline caused by temperature changes, vibrations or foundation settlement.

When observing the non-rigid dismantling joint, we can also notice its limit device. This device is usually located at both ends of the expansion body and is used to stop the movement after the joint reaches the preset maximum expansion amount, thereby preventing damage to the pipeline system caused by excessive expansion. The existence of the limit device not only improves the safety and stability of the pipeline system, but also makes the double flange limited expansion joint widely used in pipeline systems in the petroleum, chemical, electric power and other industries.

Next, we turn to the rigid( or thrust) dismantling joint, we also call it force transfer dismantling joint. Unlike the non-rigid dismantling joint, the main function of the force transfer joint is to transfer loads inside and outside the pipeline system, such as pressure, tension and bending moment. The design of this joint enables it to withstand loads under various harsh working conditions and evenly transfer these loads to the entire pipeline system through the force transfer element. From the appearance, the main features of the force transfer joint include the body, sealing ring, gland, short pipe flange, studs and nuts. Among them, the body is usually composed of two or three flanges. Compared with the double flange limited expansion joint, the rigid dismantling joint usually has longer bolts between the flanges, and these bolts will extend beyond the product body for better connection and fixation.图片2 拷贝

When observing the rigid dismantling joint, we can also notice its force transmission element and sealing device. The force transmission element is the core component of the force transmission joint, which is responsible for transferring the load from one end to the other end. The sealing device is used to ensure that the joint can still maintain good sealing performance under harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature or corrosive media. This design makes the force transmission joint also have a wide range of application prospects in pipeline systems in industries such as oil, natural gas, and chemicals.

Dismantling joint just one kind of Hesper’s expansion joints, we also have other expansion joints, like rubber expansion joints, fabric expansion joints and metal expansion joints. If you want more details or don’t know how to choose them, welcome to contact us.
