High-Efficiency Hydrocyclone for Gold, Copper, Silver, and Graphite - Top China Suppliers and Factory
Hydro cyclone is a high-efficiency separation device which uses centrifugal force to separate two-phase fluids. It has been applied in classification, thickening, dehydration, desliming, separation, washing, and other processes. Slurry is fed into the cyclone through the inlet in a tangential or involute direction (depending on how the slurry is fed). Under centrifugal force, large particles will move downwards along the outer swirling flow and be discharged through the apex as underflow, while fine particles will move upwards through the inner swirling flow and be discharged from the vortex as overflow.
Structure
Hydro cyclone consists of feed, outlet, and inlet. The hydro cyclone has one inlet that makes sure mud enters the cone along the tangent direction. It features two outlets: the smaller one at the bottom called the underflow outlet or discharge outlet, through which denser or larger particles pass, and the larger one on the top called the overflow outlet, through which lighter or finer mud passes. A small inlet, outlet, and small diameter require high pressure while processing small capacity. On the contrary, a big inlet, outlet, and big diameter require low pressure while processing large capacity.
Applications
- Closed circuit grinding.
- Mineral Classification.
- Concentrate or Tailings Thickening, Dewatering.
- Tailings damming and filling.
- Without motion and power unit, it needs to match with relevant slurry pump.
- Hydro Cyclone Separator is mainly used in ore dressing industry for classifying, sorting, thickening, and desliming.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a hydro cyclone separate particles?
A hydro cyclone uses centrifugal force generated by feeding slurry tangentially or involutely. Under this force, larger and denser particles move downward along the outer swirling flow and exit through the bottom underflow outlet, while finer particles move upward through the inner swirling flow and exit through the top overflow outlet.
What are the main components of a hydro cyclone?
It consists of a feed inlet that introduces mud tangentially, and two outlets: a smaller underflow or discharge outlet at the bottom for denser or larger particles, and a larger overflow outlet at the top for lighter or finer mud.
How does the size of the hydro cyclone affect its operating pressure?
A small inlet, outlet, and small diameter require high operating pressure while processing a smaller capacity. Conversely, a large inlet, outlet, and large diameter require low operating pressure while processing a larger capacity.
What are the primary applications of a hydro cyclone separator?
It is mainly used in the ore dressing industry for closed-circuit grinding, mineral classification, concentrate or tailings thickening, dewatering, tailings damming and filling, and desliming.
What are the main advantages of using a hydro cyclone?
Key advantages include a high grading efficiency (80% ~ 90%), large processing capacity, low operation cost, simple structure, and small footprint. Additionally, the use of polyurethane wear-resistant material greatly improves its service life.
Can multiple hydro cyclones be used together?
Yes, multiple sets of hydro cyclones can be used in parallel or in series to significantly improve overall classification efficiency and processing capacity.
